Privacy

Privacy, plainly.

What this site measures, what it doesn’t, and the choices you have.

What I measure

Counting visits, not people

This site uses Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how people find it and which pages are useful — how many visits the Research page had this month, say, or how many people arrived from Instagram. It records the pages visited, the site you came from, an approximate location (country or city), the type of device and browser, and clicks on some links, such as to my Substack. Google Analytics uses a first-party cookie to recognize a returning browser.

What I don’t do

No ads, no selling, nothing you type

Advertising features and Google signals are turned off, and nothing is sold or shared for advertising. Nothing you type into a form — your name, your email, your message — is sent to Google Analytics. The private reflection forms aren’t measured at all. Analytics data is deleted after 14 months.

Your choices

Asked first where the law expects it

If you’re in Europe — the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland — the site asks before counting your visit, and nothing is measured unless you say yes. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, analytics cookies stay off unless you say yes. Wherever you are, you can change your answer here at any time, or block Google Analytics with a content blocker or Google’s opt-out add-on.

Where other policies apply

Messages sent through the contact form are delivered to me by Netlify, which hosts this site. Some pages link to or embed services with their own privacy policies: Substack (my newsletter), Calendly (scheduling), YouTube (the video on the Now page, in privacy-enhanced mode), and posts from X and Bluesky on the #ILookLikeASurgeon page.
